Locally roasted to us in Dorset, Eco Coffee is a selection of coffee beans and ground coffee, which once used we recycle the spent coffee grounds.

The spent coffee grounds are dried and made into ‘Eco Coffee Logs’, which can be used in wood burning stoves or domestic fire places. Or, they can be recycled and used as fuel pellets to roast the next batch of Eco Coffee, so completing the zero-waste loop.

So, why is this important?

Well, with over 500,000 tons of waste coffee grounds being disposed of in landfill in the UK each year, our ever growing coffee consumption is significantly contributing towards global warming.

Coffee grounds accelerate the decomposition of other food wastes that are sent to landfill. As they decompose, they produce methane, which is a greenhouse gas with more than 20 times the global warming capacity of carbon dioxide!

How it Works…

Stage 1

Eco Coffee

The process starts with the consumer, enjoying a cup of Eco Coffee – the coffee shop/restaurant/hotel or anywhere that serves good coffee is collecting the used coffee grounds in special (re-purposed) tubs given to them by us. These containers are then collected at the same time as the coffee venues next delivery of fresh Eco Coffee

Stage 2

The next stage of the process, once the grounds have been collected, is to sieve out any foreign objects and dry the coffee grounds. From there the dried coffee grounds are fed into a large mechanical press that forces the coffee under huge pressure through a die and this forms the Bio-Fuel we require for our Eco Roasters

Stage 3

Eco Roast

The third stage of the process is roasting. Innovative, custom made Eco Roasters are used to turn the Coffee Bio-Fuel into the heat energy needed to roast Eco Coffee. The Eco Roaster is so energy efficient that it only uses approx. 40g of Bio-Fuel to roast 1kg of fresh coffee! It even stores excess heat in large thermal storage tanks for heating the roastery!

Stage 4

The final stage of the process is the beans that have just been roasted, these are then quickly cooled, de-stoned and packed in recyclable and compostable valved bags to lock in the freshness. Boxed ready for delivery to the customers. For those customers adopting the Eco Coffee System, these beans will be delivered at the same time as their coffee waste is collected. Ensuring a carbon neutral journey is achieved.

And repeat

Eco Coffee

Then the process starts all over again with a delicious cup of Eco Coffee

Zero Waste

ECO COFFEE is a Zero Waste process itself, but also actively reduces the amount of waste to landfill, making the whole process WASTE NEGATIVE!

Zero Carbon

ECO COFFEE has now linked with Play it Green, to offset any and all carbon produced through the whole process. We do this by helping fund the planting of trees in developing communities around the globe.

Sustainable

ECO COFFEE is one of the most sustainable methods of roasting fresh coffee in the world. Capturing and recycling the energy from Waste Coffee Grounds.

The Eco Coffee Journey

Waste Coffee Grounds into landfill is a catalyst for producing methane which is 20 times more damaging to the environment than CO2.
By tackling the waste the industry creates at its destination, we are helping deliver a cleaner tomorrow.
Eco roasting technology is paving the way forward to creating a cleaner and more sustainable coffee future for us all.
See below for the full, closed loop Eco Coffee journey.
Alternatively, if we aren't able to collect grounds from you then click here to find out more of what you can do with your used Eco Coffee grounds.

We collect the used grounds (at the same time as delivering the next batch of Eco Coffee to minimise trips) and return the used coffee grounds to our roastery to be dried
Stage 5
The dried coffee grounds get pressed in to a biofuel then that biofuel is used to fuel the innovative eco roaster to roast the next batch of Eco Coffee
Stage 6
The freshly roasted beans are then quality checked and packed in recyclable bags ready for delivery.
